Electroencephalography-Based Auditory Attention Decoding: Toward Neurosteered Hearing Devices

چکیده
People suffering from hearing impairment often have difficulties participating in conversations so-called cocktail party scenarios where multiple individuals are simultaneously talking. Although advanced algorithms exist to suppress background noise these situations, a device also needs information about which speaker user actually aims attend to. The voice of the correct (attended) can then be enhanced through this information, and all other speakers treated as noise. Recent neuroscientific advances shown that it is possible determine focus auditory attention noninvasive neurorecording techniques, such electroencephalography (EEG). Based on insights, multitude decoding (AAD) has been proposed, could, combined with appropriate separation miniaturized EEG sensors, lead neurosteered devices. In article, we provide broad review statistically grounded comparative study EEG-based AAD address main signal processing challenges field.

Toward the mechanisms of auditory attention.
Since the earliest studies of auditory cortex, it has been clear that an animal's behavioral or attentional state can play a crucial role in shaping the response characteristics of single neurons. Much of what has been learned about attention has been made using human and animal models, but little is known about the cellular and synaptic mechanisms by which attentional modulation of neuronal re...
متن کاملAttention-based Vocabulary Selection for NMT Decoding
Neural Machine Translation (NMT) models usually use large target vocabulary sizes to capture most of the words in the target language. The vocabulary size is a big factor when decoding new sentences as the final softmax layer normalizes over all possible target words. To address this problem, it is widely common to restrict the target vocabulary with candidate lists based on the source sentence...
متن کاملObject-based auditory and visual attention.
Theories of visual attention argue that attention operates on perceptual objects, and thus that interactions between object formation and selective attention determine how competing sources interfere with perception. In auditory perception, theories of attention are less mature and no comprehensive framework exists to explain how attention influences perceptual abilities. However, the same prin...
متن کاملToward biomaterial-based implantable photonic devices
Optical technologies are essential for the rapid and efficient delivery of health care to patients. Efforts have begun to implement these technologies in miniature devices that are implantable in patients for continuous or chronic uses. In this review, we discuss guidelines for biomaterials suitable for use in vivo. Basic optical functions such as focusing, reflection, and diffraction have been...
متن کاملToward graphene-based quantum interference devices.
A new type of quantum interference device based on a graphene nanoring in which all edges are of the same type is studied theoretically. The superposition of the electron wavefunction propagating from the source to the drain along the two arms of the nanoring gives rise to interesting interference effects. We show that a side-gate voltage applied across the ring allows for control of the interf...
